I designed this book as a means of bringing Joan Didion’s Why I Write to life, as well as to juxtapose it with George Orwell’s essay of the same name. I aimed to illustrate both writers' voices and prose. George Orwell’s piece is introduced in a more rigid manner to reflect the structured nature of his piece, while I allow Didion’s portion to feel more fluid, reflecting the stream-of-consciousness nature of her piece.
